این هفته گفتگویی داریم با درک استیونس مدیروصاحب یکی از بزرگترین و زیباترین کازینو و ریزورت لاس وگاس، اولین کازینو و ریزورت که طی 40 سال اخیراز پایه ساخته و آغاز بکار کرده است؟
• ادرکب با سپاس از اینکه در این مصاحبه شرکت کردی. ما خیلی هیجان زده هستیم که شما، برادرتان گرگ، سیرکا و همه آنچه درمورد شماست. به جامعه ایرانی با این روی جلد و مصاحبه معرفی کنیم. احساس و شور و هیجان شما برای توسعه و رشد دان تاون (مرکز شهر) لاس وگاس نه تنها قابل ستایش است بلکه شما به “دان تاون“ یک هدف و مرکزیت دادید، به راستی چرا این اقدام برایتان مهم بود آنهم در صف اول تجدید و تحول تان در لاس وگاس.

- The D Las Vegas در سال 2011، ما را به سوی توسعه و بازسازی و تجدید حیات دان‌تاون لاس وگاس کشاند و توانایی ما برای توسعه و بازسازی سیرکا….. بطوراختصاصی در دان تاون بود که با جلوه های بین المللی چون استخر، استادیوم شناور، کلاب های با شکوه، بزرگترین اسپورت بوک بین المللی که نه تنها برای تحول در دان‌تاون بلکه همه لاس وگاس بود.
• شما دوستان با نفوذی همه جا دارید بخصوص درجمع ژورنالیست های برجسته ازجامعه ایرانی، چون آرش مرکزی، شما البته از جامعه ایرانی بخصوص ایرانیان مقیم کالیفرنیای جنوبی و علاقمندی و پیوند آنها به لاس وگاس خبردارید؟ دسامبر گذشته اولین سال، طی 30 سال گذشته بود که جامعه ایرانی در لاس وگاس شوهای ویژه کریسمس را نداشت. زمانی که حداقل 50 هزارایرانی آمریکایی به لاس وگاس می آمدند تا جشن بگیرند.
- آشنایی و اطلاعات من در این زمینه برمی گردد به سابقه من که درمرکز دیرویت که شاهد زندگی و رشد و ترقی بسیاری ازمردم میدل ایست بودم، همچنین شاهد رشد و درخشش ایرانیان جنوب کالیفرنیا بودم و همین سبب توجه و تمرکز ما بروی ایرانیان شده و من درجریان علاقمندی ایرانیان به لاس وگاس هستم و اینکه چشم به آینده دوخته ایم که شاهد پارتی ها و جشن های بزرگ شان باشیم.
• درجریان هستیم که بزودی جشن ها و رویدادهای هنری ایرانیان درسیرکا برنامه ریزی شده است به راستی فکر می کنید ایرانیان توقع دارند با چه رویدادها و سورپرایزهایی درتشکیلات شما روبرو شوند که هیچ جا در لاس وکاس شاهد آن نبودند.
- سیرکا با ریزورت جذاب و استثنایی خود، تماشای همه بازیها در یک تا 6 استخر با 78 میلیون پیکسل اسکرین شرط بندی در سطح جهانی، تماشای شهر نور و رنگ از روی بام کلاب ها در طبقه شصتم Goth گوشه ای از این جلوه های جدید است.
• شما از شروع هیجان انگیزسیرکا راضی هستید؟ اگرقرار باشد یک تغییردیگردر آن بدهید چه خواهد بود؟
- من از نحوه و شیوه ساختار و توسعه سیرکا بسیارخوشحال و راضی هستم، خیلی مهم است که بخاطر بیاوریم این پروژه از مدتها پیش با اندیشه و تفکر و ایده های نو آغاز شده و از سال 2015 با در اختیار گرفتن لاس وگاس کلاب شروع شد و چند سال طول کشید تا مراحل مختلف طرح و برنامه ریزی و توسعه اش طی شود و اینک ازنظر ساختمانی، مهندسی، و تکنولوژی در نهایت کمال آماده شده و ما به نوعی سیرکا را طراحی کردیم که با مولتی پل 3D پیشرفته همراه است. ما خیلی خوش شانس بودیم که یک طرح توسعه از 30 سال پیش تا امروز به خوبی طی شده و خیلی زودتر از آنچه تصور میرفت آماده شد، این به ما یک احساس خوب می بخشد.
• تشکیلات شما بطورماهرانه ای برای بازگشایی هدایت شده، یعنی از مارچ گذشته همه چیز متوقف شد؛ درتشکیلات شما تغییرات همه چیز بخوبی پیش رفته و براستی چه ویژگی خاصی در موفقیت شما نقش داشت؟
- ما خیلی خوشحالیم وخوش شانس، که موفقیت خوبی برای اداره تشکیلات خود از تابستان تا پائیز سال 2020 داشتیم وقتی می گویم ما، منظورم یک تیم متخصص، درارتباط با همه دستورات دولتی، ایالتی، که فرصت یافتیم برای افتتاح آماده شویم و البته کلاب های موجود و فعال ما در این زمینه کارساز بودند. دو مورد مهم که نه تنها تکیه بر مدیریت جدید ریزورت و گشایش دوباره، یک تیم بسیار با تجربه که از آغاز به طرح و برنامه ریزی، دیزاین و گام به گام این پروژه کمک کردند.
• به ما درباره اسرار و راز و رمز و مسائل هیجان انگیز سیرکا بگوئید که خیلی از مردم هیچ اطلاعی ندارند شما صحنه رقص در کازینو دارید؟ یک مورد جالب که شما سابقه اش را در مجموعه LV نداشتید.
- ما این مورد را با دنسینگ دیلرشروع کردیم آنرا 10 سال پیش در گلدن گیت و بعد به The D و سپس از آنجا به سیرکا بردیم این یک مورد کاملا استثنایی در تشکیلات ماست، چون ما همه را به سویی می بریم که اوقات خوش و لذت بخشی همراه با موزیک های دلنواز داشته باشند. من توصیه می کنم حتما از استادیوم شنا Stadium Swim دیدن کنند که فقط یک تشکیلات استخر نیست، فقط بهترین استخر شنا در لاس وگاس نیست بلکه بهترین یک استخر با دیدگاه های بین المللی است

Derek, thank you for agreeing to this interview. We are excited to introduce you, your brother Greg, Circa and everything you’re about to the Persian community with this cover feature story. Your passion for the development of Downtown Las Vegas is not only admirable, but has now put the Las Vegas Strip on notice. With the opening of Circa last year, you have made DTLV a true destination. Why is DTLV – and being at the forefront of its revival – so important to you?
By purchasing the Golden Gate in 2006 and Fitzgerald’s, which turned into the D Las Vegas in 2011, has made us a part of the redevelopment and the renaissance of what has taken place Downtown Las Vegas. The ability for us to develop Circa and Garage Mahal is certainly an enhancement to Downtown, but also an enhancement to Las Vegas as a whole. Particularly, our world class attractions such as Stadium Swim, Legacy Club, and the world’s largest sportsbook. For us, this is a great thing for downtown, but a really great thing for Las Vegas.
You have a lot of friends everywhere, including a prominent journalist from our community, Arash Markazi. How familiar are you with the Persian community – especially the contingent in Southern California – and how much do you know about their affinity for Las Vegas? Last December was the 1st in 30 years that Vegas did not host the annual Persian Vegas convergence, where more than 50,000 Persian Americans come together to celebrate.
I guess some of that has to do with my background of growing up in metropolitan Detroit. I saw so much of the Middle Eastern community growing up, and knowing that the Persian community is so prevalent in both Metro Detroit and Southern California, really motivated us to focus in on this community. I’m aware of the interest in Las Vegas with the Persian Community and look forward to throwing a great party.
We hear that there is a Persian excursion event scheduled soon at Circa. What can the Persian community expect to see at Circa that they haven’t seen before anywhere else in Vegas?
Circa is an attraction based resort with unique offerings. You can watch a game from one of our six pools on our 78 million pixel screen, place a bet at the world’s largest sportsbook or watch the city light up at oour rooftop loung, Legacy Club, on the 60th floor.
Are you satisfied with how Circa has turned out? If there’s one thing you could change, what would it be?
I’m pleased with the way Circa developed. It’s important to remember that this project started a long time ago with a lot of thoughts and ideas. It effectively started with the purchase of the Las Vegas club in 2015. It took a couple of years to complete real estate assemblage which gave us an awful lot of time to think through the design and development of Circa. With today’s architectural and engineering technology available, we were able to design Circa in a manner to showcase multiple 3D renderings. We were very fortunate, unlike the developments of 30 years ago, to virtually walk through the casino a few years prior to when we opened. This gave us a good sense of what Circa would feel like before.
Your properties have expertly navigated the reopening of Vegas since things were shut down last March. To what do you attribute your success in this regard?
We were very lucky that we had the opportunity to operate the Golden Gate and the D Las Vegas throughout the Summer and Fall of 2020. When I say we, it was really our operating team. We were aware of the changing CDC and government directives throughout 2020. This helped us quite a bit in preparing to open up Circa. We were also helped by our existing Club One database as part of our assets to help us open up Circa. These two things helped us open up a new property. It’s not as if we opened a new resort with a 100% new management team and no database. That’s not really what we opened with. We opened with an experienced team that helped develop and design the project who also worked in operations.
What makes DTLV so special, in your opinion?
Well I think we’re fortunate, as you have been able to see, that in many communities there’s been a vibrancy and re-invigoration of downtowns throughout the country. Las Vegas is no different. Las Vegas is special in that this is where Las Vegas started. Circa and the Golden Gate are right on the corner of where Las Vegas started, right on the corner of Main St and Fremont St. That’s what makes Downtown Las Vegas so special.
Tell us about some of the secret or cool things about Circa that a lot of people don’t know about. You guys have table dancers in the casino? That’s definitely something you don’t experience at other LV properties.
We started the dancing dealer concept at the Golden Gate back 10 years ago and then we took that over to the D. Then from the D, we brought dancing dealers over to Circa. This is something definitely unique to our properties. We really try to push everybody to have a great time and we love playing great music. Specifically, within in Circa, I highly recommend going to visit Stadium Swim because It’s not just a pool product. It’s not just the best swimming pool in Downtown Las Vegas or on the strip. Stadium Swim is the best outdoor pool and viewing venue on a world basis. That’s the one thing I tell everyone to make sure you have a chance to check out.
What’s next for you and your company?
After spending five years developing and building this project we’re just excited about being able to operate and manage Circa.
