HEROES AND DRAGONS…
THE DIVINE AND THE MORTAL…
MORE THAN 20 CHINESE FOLK TALES,
LEGENDS TOLD IN SHEN YUN 2016

LOS ANGELES (January 5, 2016) – A monkey born from a stone acquires supernatural powers through Taoist practices. A young woman becomes an honorable warrior. The death of a revered general inspires loyalty to generations.
These are some of the more than 20 Chinese tales told in Shen Yun 2016, an all-new spectacular from the non-profit Shen Yun Performing Arts. The show will appear in six Southern California theatres in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Costa Mesa, Thousand Oaks, Northridge, and for the first time, Claremont. Tickets are on sale now.
Since 2007, more than five million people in 30 countries on four continents have enjoyed Shun Yun. In 2015, the show sold out all 23 performances in the Los Angeles area. A new production is created each year, performed by five touring companies traveling the globe.
Sixty authentically costumed dancers and a 40-piece orchestra perform before a 30-foot interactive video screen as transformations of time and location materialize. Authentic sounds of imperial courts and folk songs handed down through the generations accompany visits to ancient dynasties such as the Tang and the Qin, the mountains of Tibet, the shores of a Dai village and the sprawling plains of Mongolia.
The Shen Yun Orchestra combines the spirit, beauty and distinctiveness of Chinese music with the precision, power and grandeur of the Western symphony orchestra.
China was once known as the Divine Land where deities and mortals coexisted peacefully. The culture of the Buddhist, Taoist and other disciplines along with calligraphy, music, medicine, attire and dance was said to be a gift from the heavens. Today, the Communist regime treats traditional ideas of harmony between heaven and earth as a threat to its existence. The stories once handed down from generation to generation have been altered to support state propaganda. but are brought to the American stage with dignity and power.
