• ازدکترشرمینه می پرسیم چه شد که شما این تخصص و رشته را دنبال کردید؟
می گوید: وقتی درایران بودم، بعنوان یک کودک برایم رفتن به یک دندانپزشکی یک تفریح نبود، وقتی پدر ومادرم مرا به دیدار یک دندانپزشک می بردند، چشمانم پراز اشک می شد و تصور نشستن بروی صندلی دندانپزشک مرا دچار ترس و اضطراب می کرد و اما درآن زمان آخرین شغلی که من آرزو داشتم دندانپزشک شدن بود.
من بعنوان یک نوجوان آنروزها به هنرهای معاصر، به فشن و اینکه یک آرشیتکت باشم می اندیشیدم ولی سرانجام رشته دندانپزشکی را در دانشگاه تهران شروع کردم و تصمیم براین بود همین رشته را درآمریکا ادامه بدهم؛ زمان کوچ به لس آنجلس، من با عموهایم که هردو دندانپزشک بودند زندگی میکردم که هردو کلینیک های خود را داشتند، من به همکاری با یکی از عموهایم پرداختم که در تهیه و ارائه اسلایدها و محتویات سخنرانی هایش و پژوهش هایش همیاری اش کنم؛ این همکاری نزدیک سبب شد تا من شاهد معالجه و یاری عمویم به بیماران و هدایت آنها درجهت حفظ سلامت دهان و دندان شان باشم و همین به اضافه دیدن لبخند رضایت و اعتماد به نفس درصورت بیماران مرا به سوی این رشته و رفتن به دانشکده دندانپزشکی برد و اینکه من تصمیم گرفتم دیدگاه و احساس کودکان و نوجوانان و بزرگسالان را نسبت به عالم دندانپزشکی و درمان آن عوض کنم و به آنها حسی بدهم که با خوشحالی و راحتی خیال با دکتر متخصص قرار دیدار بگذارند.
• آیا این حرفه برای خانم ها نیاز و تلاش و کوشش بیشتری نسبت به مردان دارد؟ اینکه خود شما نه فقط یک دندانپزشک، بلکه یک بیزینس وومن خلاق، برای یک کلینیک شخصی دندانپزشکی هستید؟
- صاحب یک بیزینس بودن؛ یک حرفه پراز رقابت؛ هیجان و در ضمن انتظار یک مدیریت خوب و کارآمد نه تنها برای همکاران بلکه برای بیماران و حتی زندگی خارج از محل کار است وهمه اینها انتظاری است که از خود دارید و انتظاری که مردم ازشما دارند و نیاز به توانایی، تخصص و تجربه دارد.
خانمها دریک شغل حرفه ای مسئولیت بزرگی را بردوش دارند، من بعنوان یک دندانپزشک جوان، گاه در محیط کار مسائلی دارم؛ خوشبختانه عمویم به من بسیار آموخت، تجربیات خود را به من انتقال داد، به من اعتماد به نفس داد. اینکه می گفت چند سال بعد ازفارغ التحصیلی هنوز درشغل خود جا نیفتاده بود ولی بمرور جا افتاد و برشغل خود و بر روابط با بیماران مسلط شد و خیلی زود به حل مشکلات شان پرداخت و همین ها با تشویق و تائیدش، مرا بسوی استحکام فکری و شغلی و رابطه نزدیک و پرثمر با بیماران سوق داد و اینک من بعنوان یک دندانپزشک زیبایی، آن اعتماد به نفس لازم و آن لبخند همیشگی را برصورت بیماران خود می نشانم و از دیدن چهره راضی وخوشحال شان، خوشحال می شوم.
• آیا درمقام مدیریت بیزینس خود و مسئولیت های سنگین آن، ازحرفه اصلی خود دور نشدید؟
- من هیچگاه از قالب یک دندانپزشک خارج نشده ام و هیچگاه ازاینکه بیماران خود را خوشحال کنم و چهره دلپذیرشان روز مرا بسازد دست نمی کشم و درعین حال می کوشم دانش و تجربه خود را به فارغ التحصیلان تازه انتقال بدهم.
• چگونه تخصص شوهرتان در آنلاین مارکتینگ به شما و حرفه تان کمک می کند؟
- شوهرم بخش مهم موفقیت من بحساب می آید. چرا که در عصرتکنولوژی، مارکتینگ (بازاریابی) بسیاردچار تحول و تغییرشده و بعد از اکوید 19ب کلینیک ها بکلی تغییر روشن داده، بکلی از کاغذبازی دور شده و همه چیز بطور دیجیتال کارها را آسان کرده است.
• چه توصیه ای برای دانشجویان دندانپزشکی که تازه این حرفه را آغاز کردند دارید؟
- اولین توصیه ام این است که باید ابتدا به این حرفه عشق داشته باشند و بعد شروع کنند؛ چون حرفه ای است که به بدن و مغز شما و روان شما تکیه دارد؛ حرفه آسانی نیست ولی قابل ارزش است و کالج ها و دانشکده های دندانپزشکی درساختن پایه های استوار یک دندانپزشک جدید، براستی کوشش فراوان دارند و این البته بستگی به خود شخص دارد که پایه محکمی برای خود بسازد و با علم جدید آشنا و تجهیز شود مرتب در سمینارها، سخنرانی ها، ورک شاپ ها شرکت کند.
• در جریان هستیم شما در امورخیریه، تلاش های انساندوستانه نقش داشتید و به آن ادامه میدهید.
- ما برای گروه هایی که دسترسی به امکانات دندانپزشکی ندارند تا حد امکان وسایل، لوازم و سرویس در اختیار امدادگران می گذاریم از دیدگاه ما دندانپزشکی مرز نمی شناسد و من به سهم خود زمان هایی را برای خدمت در این سرزمین برای جامعه نیازمند در اختیار می گذارم و باوردارم که نه تنها ما نیازهای ضروری آنها را برآورده می سازیم بلکه خود را یک پزشک مسئول و بهتر می سازیم.

1) why did you choose to pursue dentistry? Who in your family or circle of friends influenced you? (This is where she discusses her uncles and their expertise and resumes)
As a child living in Iran, It was never a fun experience going to a dentist for me. Whenever my parents wanted to take me to a dentist, my eyes would be filled with tears and the thought of sitting into a dentist chair would bring me fear and anxiety. The last thing I wanted to become when I grew up was to become a dentist. My passion as a young girl was always about contemporary art and design which led me to study architecture in Tehran University.
Fast forward a few years, I decided to come to the United States to further my studies in architecture. At the time when I moved here to Los Angeles, I lived with my uncles who are both dentists and owned their own dental practice. I took interest in working with one of my uncles as he needed someone to help put his presentations and slides together for his lectures and research. Working with him, I saw the passion he had for treating, educating patients and how he cared for his patients oral health. What ultimately made me decide to go to dental school was the life changing experience his patients received when they were able to smile once again. I wanted to change the experience of every child and an adult who is afraid of going to a dentist forever. I want my style of dentistry to reflect and cater toward patients’ comfort and experience, so no one feels afraid the next time they pick up the phone and make their next dental appointment.
2) is it more challenging for a woman than a man in doing what you do, which is not only being a dentist but also a business owner, in establishing your own practice?
As a business owner, you are challenged and often expected to be great at management of staff, management of your patient, management of cash-flow and most importantly management of life outside of your office. We are often expected to be all things to all people at all times. This all feels intimidating at times and it is a learning process that you must go through as a practice owner everyday.
Women continue to bear a heavier burden when it comes to their professional career, and being a small business owner compared to their male counterparts. This certainly holds true with women in dentistry as well. As a young dentist you are often confused with an assistant or a receptionist when you first meet your patients. My uncle gave me a valuable lesson in confidence when this first happened to me. My uncle explained he was still told that he was too young multiple years out of school. He gained trust with patients through his unwavering knowledge of solving their problem. The encouragement from more seasoned dentists in these situations allows my overall level of confidence to increase, thus relaying to my every day practice in speaking with patients.
Anyone regardless of gender can make an impact on their community, and my goal as a young business owner and a cosmetic dentist is to help bring smiles to countless faces in my community.
3) will you ever stop practicing dental medicine when you transition more into the business side of things and running more offices?
No, I can never see myself stop practicing dentistry. Creating a healthy smile has always been my biggest motivation in starting my day. However, I do like the business aspects of dentistry where I can expand and transfer my knowledge to new graduates to further advance the field of dentistry.
4) how has your husband’s expertise in online marketing helped you in your line of work?
I can say with confidence that I wouldn’t have been able to get to where I am in my practice if it wasn’t for my husband. His profession and knowledge of IT has been the most valuable in growing our practice. He has been a big part of my success. In the new era of technology, marketing has changed a lot. Also after COVID, our office transitioned fully to a paperless office and all digital and his expertise in IT has made it easy to transition.
5) any advice to prospective dental students or those just starting out in the profession?
My advice is to make sure you really love dentistry before going into it. It’s really tough on your body as well as on your mind. It is not an easy field but it’s the most rewarding. Dental schools do a great job of providing a solid foundation for a career, but it’s up to you to build on that foundation by getting the advanced clinical training that exemplifies today’s top dentists. Start by signing up for local continuing education lectures, retreat weekend workshops and most importantly subscribe to popular dental podcasts. In short, surround yourself with people who see your higher value, and who will keep you accountable to your career plan.
6) what charitable endeavors have you been a part of and continue to be involved with?
We routinely donate dental and medical supplies and materials to various outreach groups to help them in their mission of service to those less fortunate. Oral health should know no limits or borders. I believe that exceptional dental treatment should be available to everyone. I routinely dedicate free time to assist the underserved communities. At my practice, we routinely provide pro bono care to deserving individuals with a pay it forward philosophy knowing that their experience will only add to our mission and goals. I believe these charitable opportunities not only aid people in need; they also make us better doctors.
