In one of my latest clips on Instagram regarding the latest victims of the honor killings in Iran and two young women being butchered by their fathers for posting their so-called inappropriate pictures on social media, I advised our girls to be cautious and think twice before posting a private photo on social media and at the same time, condemning the Iranian government for not protecting these innocents girls.
My advice was not only hijacked by the Islamic Republic’s mercenaries who did not like my criticism. They ripped apart my clip, interpreted my advice as a tie to the Islamic republic, and turned this social dilemma into a political battle. Lashing out at me for asking the girls in Iran to be quiet, which I never did. I genuinely believe in politically driven actions that make a difference.
But in my opinion, this is not a political action. This is potential suicide. This sick group has also been harassing Iranian democrats, calling them names suitable for their own mothers, leaving ugly comments on the real Iranian public servants’ posts punishing them for posting pictures of themselves with the vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
Unlike some narrow-minded people’s belief, posting this clip had nothing to do with my ex-husband’s controversy, whom I divorced 42 years ago.
I taped this clip-on June 28th when my hair was shorter and black, and when I noticed not enough people examined these honor killings in Iran and brought them to light, it broke my heart. I decided to say something about it and make the girls in Iran aware of their surroundings. But then, thinking I may be rushing to conclusions here, I decided to wait and leave this matter to whom it may concern.
Four months passed by the hashtags disappeared, and what finally pulled the trigger was a new clip from Iran about a young couple. The groom beheaded the bride, believing she was in love with someone else before him. I went mad and decided to go ahead and post the old clip. I could no longer bear the silence.
Ever since social media and the virtual world has become a place to have fun at and a place to immerse one’s self in other people’s lives, or in other words, to live in an imaginary life, increasingly young people try to take refuge in it, slowly forgetting about the sometimes harsh and brutal law and orders as well as living under their parents’ roofs.

The gap between the real and the free/luxurious world on social media becomes narrower to the point that a young girl from an extremely religious family is no longer capable of recognizing her surroundings in real life. The girl whose father keeps an ax at his mattress by night or the brothers who pray at the mosque five times a day. These are the girls who do not see the Mullahs on the streets spitting on the ground, whispering ASTAGHFORELA, “damn to Satan for having seen her face, the face of an unfamiliar woman.”
This girl does not know that it is not advisable for her to post a photo of herself in her boyfriend’s car with full makeup on, which probably was put on after leaving home, either at her girlfriend’s place, who enjoys a more carefree life than hers.
Iran is not the only country suffering from this social media dilemma; this disease has taken lots of young people’s lives in Iran and its neighboring countries, mostly in extreme Islamic societies.
I chose my path by studying politics in the UK in the early eighties, shortly after the revolution. I spent five years of my life studying International Relations and Political Science, getting myself educated, learning about the cause of the revolution in Iran, and helping my people constructively. I have never shied away from telling the truth, regardless of the sick-minded individuals twisting my words, ripping my clip into pieces, with their ill intentions, spreading the rumor that I am asking the girls in Iran to be quiet.
I have always stayed with the truth, and that will never change.
I welcome constructive dialogues that would or could help us resolve problems. Not the destructive ones that come from bigoted minds that are meant to destroy and divide people.
