Los Angeles City Council Member Tony Cardenas:

“We are officially recognizing the Nowruz celebration here in the city of Los Angeles, along with Mr. [Pouria] Abassi and other dignitaries of the Iranian community to come forth and join us here so we so that we can recognize their community.

NowruzMobarak. That’s Happy New Year for many of our LosAngeles residents who are of Persian decent. Nowruz is a celebration of new beginnings. Nowruz marks more than just the mark of the New Year,it’s a time for reflection of peace and social justice at its core…

“The message of Nowruz is social interaction, solidarity, community, social justice, joy, companionship, happiness, freedom of expression, democracy, peace, and prosperity for humanity.

“For the eighth year in a row, I am honored to join my colleague and friends here in our wonderful city in recognizing and announcing the coming of Spring, which is Nowruz the celebration of life. The most recent estimate is that there are over 300 Iranian-Americans that work in various professions and capacities right here for the city of Los Angeles.

“I would also like to add that the most educated immigrant community to this country is people who are Iranian (Persians) who come here with morebachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and doctorate degrees than any other community in the world.

“Needless to say, the Persian community continues to contribute immensely to the city of LosAngeles and beyond.

My best wishes to all a Happy New Year, NowruzMobarak.
